This is a blog about my trip from central New York to Alaska, up to the Arctic Circle and back home on a 2009 BMW R1200GS motorcycle. 2011 I included my cross country ride to Idaho, and the National Parks I will be touring.

The top two photos are at Lake Powell, sunrise, and "Lone Rock". The next three are at Monument Valley. The first one is in the morning at Totem Pole during a nasty sand storm. You can see the sand in the air, and it's effect on the next two at sundown. The bottom two are at the Grand Canyon NP. The lightning photo took a while to get and that is looking out over the Painted Desert. The bottom photo is at Toroweap, on the North rim of the Grand Canyon. You take a 60 mile dirt road to get to it. The last five miles are four wheel drive country.

Your photos are beautiful. I was thinking of doing a quick road trip in mid-September to The Wave, Antelope Canyon and Monument Valley. I was going to rent a motorcycle for this, but I'm not an everyday rider (read beginner). What is the difficulty of the dirt roads getting to these places? I can't seem to find much info on the internet if these would be beyond my ability to maneuver a bike. Thanks!
